KMA Trains Assembly Members on Governance, Accountability and Service Delivery

The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has taken a major step to deepen effective and accountable local governance with a two-day “Next Generation Leadership Training” for Assembly Members in the metropolis.

The training, held from August 10 to 11, 2026, at the Royal Lamerta Hotel, was aimed at equipping Assembly Members with practical knowledge to enhance their role in lawmaking, oversight, and service delivery at the local level.

Organised by the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs in collaboration with the National Association of Local Authorities of Ghana (NALAG) and the Institute of Local Government Studies (ILGS), with support from KMA, the programme covered key areas including by-laws, leadership, decentralisation laws, corporate governance, and other critical aspects of local governance.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, NALAG President, Hon. Alfred Asiedu Adjei, urged participants to translate the knowledge acquired into responsible leadership and improved service to their constituents.

“Investments and resources under the Assembly’s oversight must produce value,” Hon. Adjei stressed. “Local government is the bedrock of national development, and it is your duty to ensure that the people feel the impact.”

The Mayor of Kumasi, Hon. Richard Kwasi Ofori Boadi Agyemang, expressed appreciation to the facilitators and partners and expressed his confidence that the training would strengthen the capacity of Assembly Members to effectively deliver on their mandate and serve both the interests of government and Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene.

The Presiding Member of KMA, Hon. Patrick Kwame Frimpong, also encouraged members to put their new knowledge into practice for the benefit of the people of Kumasi.
