GEA Engages Gender Ministry on Female Future Programme

The Ghana Employers Association (GEA) has held discussions with the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection on plans to expand its Female Future Programme to include female Members of Parliament as part of efforts to advance women’s leadership development in the country.

A delegation from the Association, led by its Chief Executive Officer, Mr Alex Frimpong, paid a courtesy call on the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Hon. Dr Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, to brief her on the initiative and explore opportunities for collaboration.

The delegation explained that the Female Future Programme is a leadership development initiative that has been implemented over the past eight to nine years.

It is designed to equip women in senior management with the knowledge, skills and confidence required to assume higher leadership positions.

The programme focuses on leadership development, effective communication, governance and other competencies that prepare women for executive and strategic leadership roles.

According to the Association, the programme has recorded successes, and it now intends to extend it to female Members of Parliament.

The delegation noted that similar programmes in other African countries have yielded positive outcomes and expressed hope of working with the Ministry to facilitate the implementation of the programme in Ghana.

Responding to the presentation, Hon. Dr Lartey welcomed the initiative and acknowledged the importance of interventions that promote women’s empowerment and leadership development.

She said the Ministry remains committed to advancing gender equality and supporting interventions that create opportunities for women to excel in leadership and decision-making.

The Minister encouraged the Association to submit a comprehensive concept note to enable the Ministry to review the proposal and provide the necessary technical input.

She added that the Ministry would engage the appropriate leadership and relevant stakeholders to explore possible collaboration, while ensuring that the programme is adapted to Ghana’s local context and priorities.
