Catholic Women Engage Gender Ministry on New Coalition to Tackle Violence Against Women and Girls

A delegation of Catholic women has called on the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Hon. Dr Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, to discuss ways of strengthening collaboration in promoting gender equality, protecting families and addressing gender-based violence.

During the engagement, the delegation briefed the Minister on preparations for the 2026 World Union of Catholic Women’s Organisations Day Celebration and on plans to launch the Coalition of Religious and Traditional Women Against Violence and Discrimination Against Women and Girls.

They explained that the initiative seeks to mobilise faith-based and traditional women leaders to champion the rights, safety and well-being of women and girls across the country.

The delegation further stressed that many people turn to faith-based institutions for guidance and support during difficult times, making churches important platforms for promoting respect, peaceful coexistence and the protection of women, children and vulnerable persons.

In response, Hon. Dr Agnes Naa Momo Lartey commended the initiative and reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to working with faith-based organisations to advance gender equality, prevent gender-based violence, protect women and girls, and strengthen families and communities.
