2024 Elections: Asantehene and Asantehemaa Cast Votes
The King of the Asante Kingdom, His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and Queen, Her Majesty Nana Konadu Yiadom III have cast their votes in the ongoing polls.
Ghana is today electing a new President alongside 276 Parliamentary representatives for the next four years as part of democratic processes.
The exercise brought out the royals of the Asante Kingdom to exercise their franchise.
Asantehene Votes
The Monarch was the first to arrive at the Manhyia Palace Polling Station 1 in the Manhyia South Constituency to cast his vote.
Together with his wife Lady Julia, he strolled from his residence to the polling station accompanied by a contingency of Traditional authorities, officials from his Office, courtiers and officials of the EC.
Noticeable among his entourage was the current Member of Parliament for the Manhyia South Constituency, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh.
He arrived at the polling station at around 11: 50 am and was done casting both the Presidential and Parliamentary ballots in five minutes.
Right after the King was done voting, Lady Julia cast hers.
Asantehemaa Votes
As the King was exiting the station, the Queen arrived in a black Benz saloon car.
Surrounded and effectively guarded by her courtiers and security officers, Her Majesty went through the due process to cast her ballot.
She was done in no time and left the polling station at 12: 09pm.
Election
The election will see 18,774,159 registered voters voting in 40,648 polling stations in 276 Constituencies.
Twelve Presidential candidates are scrambling for power. They are Mahamudu Bawumia of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Dramani Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Alan John Kwadwo Kyerematen, an Independent Candidate, Christian Kwabena Andrews of the Ghana Union Movement (GUM), Daniel Augustus Lartey Jnr of the Great Consolidated Popular Party (GCPP) and George Twum-Barima-Adu, an Independent Candidate.
The rest are Nana Kwame Bediako, an Independent Candidate, Hassan Abdulai Ayariga of the All People’s Congress (APC), Kofi Akpaloo of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), Mohammed Frimpong of the National Democratic Party (NDP), Nana Akosua Frimpomaa of the Convention People’s Party (CPP) and Kofi Koranteng, an Independent Candidate.
