2023 BECE: Two Teachers Arrested For Alleged Examination Malpractices
Two teachers have been arrested by the police for allegedly attempting to smuggle solved examination questions into an exam hall at the Dunkwa Secondary Technical Centre in the Upper Denkyira East Municipality in the Central Region.
This was on Monday, August 7, 2023.
The suspects have been identified as Albert Adu-Gyan, a tutor at PEEBLE Calvary School and Yaw Adadai, a tutor at Oxford Santech School.
A statement from the police service says two mobile phones and solved questions on two separate papers were retrieved from them.
It explained, “The two suspects, Albert Adu-Gyan and Yaw Adadai, tutors of PEEBLE Calvary and Oxford Santech schools respectively, were arrested when they attempted to smuggle into the examination hall some solved examination questions to candidates sitting the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) at the centre. “
It further cautioned the public examination against malpractices in the ongoing Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
As of Monday, the West African Examination Council (WAEC) reported four persons had been arrested over examination malpractices in the Ashanti, Central and Greater Accra Regions.
“One individual was picked up in the Ashanti region when he was trying to approach the examination hall with some prepared materials for the candidates. We also picked somebody from Tema Central where the lady had a tablet that has some information she intended to pass on to candidates.
“In the Central region, Dunkwa-On Offin to be specific, we picked up two people who were answering the questions in the middle of the paper that they intended sending to candidates who were writing,” JoyNews quotes the Head Public Affairs at the WAEC, John Kapi as saying.
