15-year Jail Term “Excessive” and Meant to “Appease” Public- Agradaa’s Lawyer

The counsel for the convicted self-styled evangelist, Patricia Asiedu, has opined that her 15-year jail sentence was fuelled by consideration of her personality and not the case on the ground.

In a media interview, after the circuit court passed its judgement, he said the sentence was “excessive”.

He is therefore preparing to file an appeal on Monday, June 7, 2025, to contest the judgement.

“We will trigger processes on Monday. We believe the sentence of 15 years is just excessive. Even the amount involved is just GHC540. How can it be alleged that you have defrauded someone GHC540 and then be convicted for 15 years?”

According to him, the controversial nature of his client influenced the judgement.

“I’m very clear in my mind that Agradaa has been jailed just because of who she is and not because of what she is alleged to have done. These judgements are passed just to appease the public because of who she is.”

Explaining his assertion against the judgement, he said, When prosecution closed its case, we made it very clear that there were some charges {count four and count five} to which no evidence was presented…The fact that you (judge) ordered us to open our defence when you were very clear in your mind that there was no evidence on record is indicative of a premeditated mind.”

On the remaining counts, he said the judge failed to consider their evidence, the reason for its conclusion.

“We are very clear in our mind that there are several other pieces of evidence on the ground on record. If considerations were given to them, it would not have come to the conclusion the court came.”
