Zongo Nkosuohene Invites Pragya Riders Over KMA Restriction
The office of the Asanteman Zongo Development Chief, Alhaji Abdul Ali Barry, has invited the riders of tricycle (pragya) to a meeting following the melee that has characterized a decree restricting their operation in the Central Business District (CBD) in Kumasi.
The meeting is scheduled to take place on August 10, at 11am and aims to address the concerns of the various associations, unions and groups involved in the tricycle venture.
The statement issued on August 9, urges the participation of tricyle drivers to collaborate on finding a solution to their collective grievances.
“Please I call on you for an urgent meeting to address the concerns of Associations, Unions and Groups of the Adedeta and Pragya drivers over the pending issue.”
“I humbly awaits your call to the meeting to restore calmness in the metropolis. Counting on your usual cooperation,” it added.
The ban on tricycle operations within areas such as Kejetia, Adum, Alabar and Dr Mensah in the CBD came into force on August 1.
In the course of enforcement earlier this week, 46 tricycles were impounded for flouting the law.
This received a fierce opposition from riders who in turn went on rampage and besieged the office of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) to demand the release of the seized tricycles.
Their action led to the destruction of some properties at the Office and caused injuries to six police officers.
