Zito Bemoans His Wingers’ Awful Conduct Which led to Kotoko’s Defeat

Kumasi Asante Kotoko suffered their fourth league defeat of the 2025-26 season at the Lions’ Den to Kpando Heart of Lions.
The Week 21 fixture was a hurdle that many club supporters exploited to build their confidence, given the Kpando outfit’s deterioration in form over the last ten league games: one win, three draws, and six losses.
Notwithstanding the fact that the league leaders, Medeama SC, suffered a defeat at Dr. Kyei Sports Stadium on Friday, fuelling their desire to decrease the leaders’ points.
Zito had spoken to Asante Kotoko’s media days before the trip to the Volta Region, saying that his side must develop a winning mentality in the second round of the season to keep their title hopes alive.
Asante Kotoko’s goal-scoring ability was on full display in their most recent league game at home against Basake Holy Stars, when they scored three goals, one in the first half and two in the second half.
Karim Zito’s team is undoubtedly the second-best in terms of goals scored, but their solitary consolation goal against Kpando came from a penalty kick rather than an open play in the second half by Samba Ndongani.
Reuben Hennessy and Ebenezer Abban, who stood strong and resolute against Peter Amidu Acquah and Saka Dauda, showed that the Porcupine Warriors weren’t as tough as they thought they were when they tried to make risky attacking plays.
Abdul Karim Zito talked about how bad his offensive wingers were after the game, saying that they were ineffective in front of goal.
Zito lamented, “Yes, today when you look at our wingers, they didn’t operate the way I wanted them to do. But it’s like, it will be ok, it will be ok. Till later on, when I tried to change.”
He described the strategy his squad used to score goals, “Because goals are easily scored through the wings, but today my wingers didn’t do well, so that brought all these issues together.”
