You’re In Charge; Manage Food And Pricing Hikes-Otumfuo Tasks Agric Minister
The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has tasked the Minister of Food and Agriculture, Hon Owusu Afriyie Akoto to manage food and pricing hikes issues in the country.
He says the minister is in charge of the agric sector and so the issue of food unavailability and price hikes in the market ought to be handled.
Hon Owusu Afriyie with a delegation led by the Ashanti Regional Minister, visited His Royal Majesty, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II at Manhyia Palace as he embarks on an annual tour to the region.
Otumfuo said, in the midst of high fuel prices amongst others, he expects that he pulls his best in such a situation.
“Finances off late is difficult, government reducing fuel prices too will be a problem including the tax revenue yet you’re still in charge. This is the time I want to see the steps you take for us to get food. No matter what we don’t own petrol we import it and so it is expensive but the maize should be available. Do it well for food availability so that Ghanaians will have the belief that even in the hard times you made food come from the farms.”
The Asante Monarch however commended him for his efforts with the Planting for Food and Job Programme which made farming enticing and improved the sector until the onset of the pandemic.
“I had belief in you and indeed in your first four years Planting for Food and Job was doing well, food came in abundance and was even reported that we could export some and it made farming attractive then the sickness came followed by the war which we have no control of, all these have affected the price of petrol which has affected the transportation of food items.”
