Yagbonwura Rescinds Ban on Abu Jinapor

The Overlord of the Gonjaland, Yagbonwura Bi-kunuto Jewu Soale has lifted his ban on the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel Abu Jinapor.

This was confirmed by pictures and videos splashed on social media in which the Minister who also doubles as the Member of Parliament for Damongo Constituency as well as some government officials led by the Minister for Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Stephen Asamoah Boateng had visited the traditional leader on Friday, August 2, 2024.

In one of the pictures, they had posed with the leader with Jinapor wearing a big smile on his face, apparently due to the reconciliation.

The suspension of the ban means Jinapor can at any time and with all government delegations visit Palaces under the authority of the Yagbonwura.

Background
On Sunday, July 21, 2024, the Palace of the Yagbonwura through his spokesperson, Sulemana Adam directed all chiefs in the area against receiving the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources or any delegation he is part of at their Palaces.

He accused Jinapor of leveraging his office as a government official to make of no effect orders and the authority of the Yagbonwura.

According to Mr Adam, the Yagbonwura is of the view that Hon Jinapor is encouraging disrespect and rebellion toward his leadership.

In reaction, the Minister said the allegations levelled against him were the results of “some miscommunication and unfortunate misunderstanding of some issues and expressed his determination to seek guidance to restore peace with his traditional leaders in order to facilitate the development of his constituency and the Savannah Region at large”.

“I will consult and seek guidance on the way forward for normalcy to prevail so that all stakeholders can continue to work together to bring development to the people of Damongo and the Savannah Region as a whole,” Graphic Online quotes him as saying.
