Winning Is the Only Option – Coach Karim Zito Fires Warning to Kotoko Players in GPL Title Hunt

Abdul Karim Zito has outlined an approach that his players must adopt in order to remain competitive for the Ghana Premier League title.

Kumasi Asante Kotoko is a strong candidate for the league crown after Week 20, with 35 points to finish third, along with Aduana Stars and Accra Hearts of Oak.

The team is the second highest-scoring team, with 27 goals, but Tarkwa-based Medeama SC has the most goals (30).

The Porcupine Warriors will play their eleventh league game away; they have won three, drawn four, and lost three, accumulating 13 points out of a possible 30.

Kotoko is set to travel to Kpando in the Volta Region for the match against Heart of Lions, a squad that is yet to be defeated by Zito’s side since their comeback to the top-flight league in the 2023-24 season.

Karim Zito, in a pre-match interview with Asante Kotoko media on YouTube, made a statement that is demanding of the playing body if the squad is to remain in contention for the season’s title.

Zito reacted to Kotoko’s media when he was questioned as to how his players have to position themselves in a daunting trophy challenge among four teams, Medeama SC, Aduana Stars and Accra Hearts of Oak.

“The only thing we have to do is to play and win. We should go with a winning mentality because we don’t have any chance like the first round of the season. After the end of the first round, we’re all hoping for the second round we don’t have any hope again.”

Zito, a former Dreams FC tactician, outlined his expectations for the club in the second round as they aim to remain in contention for the trophy.

“I think we are working towards that, and then we are working with a positive mentality in this second round. Anything can happen, but we are going with a mentality of winning.”
