Why Over 108,000 Qualified BECE Candidates Couldn’t Be Placed
The Ghana Education Service has reported that a total of 108,025 qualified Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidates, out of 585,797, were unable to secure placements in any of their chosen schools.
According to the GES, they could not be matched with any of their choices of schools and are to go through a self-placement module.
The service says there is a designated portal where available schools will be at the disposal of such candidates for onward selection.
“If a student is not matched with any of his/her choices from the automatic placement system, he/she will be redirected to the Self-Placement Portal.”
It adds that “all schools with vacancies have been uploaded on the portal for students to select from during self-placement without hitches” and “Schools selected on self-placement portal can be changed as many times as the candidate wishes on the portal until they enroll in a school”.
How To Self-Place:
From the portal, select a school by providing region choice, residential preference, school, and choice of programme.
Candidates after this input, are to click on submit, print the form and visit the school to begin the admission process.
Meanwhile, heads of the various schools will begin registration and orientation on November 4, 2023, the GES said in a statement released on Tuesday.
