Why Guru was Disqualified from UG SRC Presidency
The end of the road has come in the race of Ghanaian rapper Maradona Adjei Yeboah, popularly known as Guru, for the Presidency position of the University of Ghana (UG) Student’s Representative Council (SRC).
He is one of the two aspirants who were disqualified after a vetting process on August 11 by the Vetting Committee of the University of Ghana Students Representative Council (UGSRC).
A statement put out by the Commission on August 16, 2024 explained that the two were disqualified on the basis that they are non-resident students.
This makes them unqualified per the SRC’s Constitution which states that “A student shall not be qualified to any executive office unless: he is qualified to contest under his hall’s constitution, except that a provision requiring a student to be in at least his third year in this University shall not disqualify such a person from contesting for any office under this article.”
The Commission in its statement said the disqualified candidates confirmed their non-resident status during the vetting process.
“Upon a careful examination of the documents submitted, it was discovered that two candidates from the Presidential and Vice Presidential aspirants indicated their non-resident status, which they further confirmed during the vetting process.”
Guru’s disqualification leaves the room for Emmanuel Owusu Amponsah, Emmanuel Mensah, Nii Afotey Odai and Blessing Mantey to pursue the race for the Presidency.
