Why Greater Accra Regional Minister-designate Was Not Questioned by Vetting Committee

The Greater Accra Regional Minister-designate, Linda Akweley Ocloo, was discharged by the Appointments Committee vetting nominated Ministers by President John Dramani Mahama without any questions.

On Tuesday, January 28, 2025, when it was her turn to appear before the Committee, she was accompanied by some former lawmakers and traditional authorities from the region.

After taking the oath, she was requested by the Committee to speak about herself in two minutes which she did and got discharged immediately after.

Before declaring her discharge, the Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin waded into the dignity of the contingency that offered her support in the room as well as her good conduct in parliament over the years.

“It appears you have an army of wise men supporting you. You’ve conducted yourself well in Parliament. You are a respected colleague… I have some few questions for you which may take some two hours but don’t panic, by your good conduct, I am sure we will reserve the questions for another day. Congratulations,” he remarked.

The Chairman of the Committee, Bernard Ahiafor, while discharging her also acknowledged the “revered chiefs, former Members of Parliament, former Ministers present here to give moral support to the administer designate for Greater Accra”.

He declared, “Hon Minister nominee, you will surely hear from the committee, you are hereby discharged.”

Her vetting took 10 minutes, the shortest since the process began. This has brought the Committee under criticism, with many saying it failed to deliver on its mandate.
