Why Black Stars Took First Training At Abrankese
The Dr Kwame Kyei Sports Complex was the choice of the Black Stars technical team for the first training of the present players in preparation for the Africa Cup of Nations Tournament in Cote D’Ivoire this month.
The decision to opt for the home base of Nations FC on Tuesday, January 2 came after an inspection of the Baba Yara Sports Stadium by the technical team led by Head Coach Chris Hughton.
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) explained the Baba Yara Sports Stadium was not in a better condition for their training.
“After a thorough inspection of the Baba Yara Sports Stadium and the Dr Kwame Kyei Sports Complex at Abrankese, the technical team led by Chris Hughton decided to move the first-day training to the Dr Kwame Kyei Sports Complex due to the unfavourable state of the pitch at the Baba Yara Sports stadium.”
Tuesday’s training was the first of their nine-day training and intensive preparation towards the tournament.
As of Tuesday, 23 players who had reported to camp in Kumasi underwent the necessary preparations. Among them were Joseph Wollacott, Lawrence Ati-Zigi, Alidu Seidu, Denis Odoi, Kingsley Schindler, Gideon Mensah, Abdul Fatawu Hamid, Nicholas Opoku, and Daniel Amartey.
