Why Bawumia Missed May Day Celebration
The Vice President of the country, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, was not able to make it to the 2023 May Day Celebration in Bolgatanga in the Upper East Region.
Except for this year’s event, he had been consistent with his presence at the event to celebrate workers across the country since his assumption of office in 2017.
Reading his speech at the event on Monday, President Akufo-Addo relayed the apology of the Vice President for his absence.
It appears Dr Bawumia had to welcome the Prime Minister of Japan into the country at the Airport- the reason for his absence.
“He is welcoming the Prime Minister of one of Ghana’s most important partners, Japan, who is arriving this morning in Accra for a two-day official visit,” President Akufo-Addo noted.
Prime Minister Fumio Kishida is the second Japanese Prime Minister to visit Ghana.
This year’s May Day Celebration was held under the theme, “Protecting Incomes and Pensions in an Era of Economic Crisis: Our Responsibility”.
