Why are Accra, Kumasi and Takoradi Still Dirty; Dumelo Asks Sanitation Minister
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) 2024 Parliamentary candidate for the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency and actor, John Dumelo has indirectly questioned the competence of the country’s Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources as the major cities are being swallowed up by filth.
In his latest well-thought-through attack against his fierce contender in the parliamentary election, Lydia Alhassan Seyram, Dumelo focused on her Ministerial role.
He took to X, formerly Twitter to question the Minister.
“I have questions for the Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources. Why is Accra still dirty? Why are Kumasi and Takoradi still dirty? Why hasn’t the minister even visited water bodies polluted by galamsey activities to show concern and even pretend to care?”
Lydia was appointed to the role on February 14 by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo during a shake-up in his Ministers. She replaced Freda Prempeh who had taken up the job barely a year after Cecilia Abena Dapaah resigned over a controversy.
Lydia’s appointment was subsequently approved by Parliament in May 2024.
Since taking over, she has undertaken some inspections of sanitation projects in parts of the country and launched projects. Among them is the revised National Water policy.
