Whoever Frustrates New GRA Boss’ Appointment is Ghana’s Enemy- Group

The President of the New Ghana Social Justice Forum, Yahaya Alhassan, has stated that anyone who opposes the appointment of Anthony Kwasi Sarpong, as the Acting Commissioner-General of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) must be seen as an enemy of the country.

The leader of the Civil Society Organisation (CSO) believes the appointment by the President is ideal for the sensitive sector.

“I believe whoever chastises the appointment of Mr Anthony K Sarpong is an enemy of Ghana and the country we all love.”

According to him, Mr Sarpong is the answer and solution to what Ghanaians have been crying over for years.

“We cry to end corruption. We cry for openness and transparency so appointing Mr Anthony K Sarpong is a step in the right direction,” he said in an interaction with the media following agitations by some supporters of the governing party over the appointment.

He therefore called on the country to unite and support his appointment.

“We should unite and support him. It’s a key industry in Ghana that needs a professional for money mobilisation and transparency. We need a trustworthy person in the person of Anthony K Sarpong.”

Last week, President Mahama announced the appointment of the former Senior Partner of the KPMG, in the stead of Julie Essiam.

Irate supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) on January 27 stormed the premises of the GRA in the Greater Accra Region to prevent him from entering the premises in a protest to his appointment.

According to them, Mr Sarpong played no part in the party’s electoral victory to warrant an appointment.
