We’ve Not Frozen CEO of Bills Micro Credit Accounts- GRA

The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has debunked reports that the bank accounts of the founder of Bills Micro Credit Ltd, Richard Nii Armah Quaye, have been frozen.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the Authority urged the public to disregard the widely reported claim as they are baseless.
Though it confirmed income tax assessment had been issued on him, no enforcement action including freezing bank accounts had been taken against him.
“GRA therefore requests the general public to disregard the publications on social media and other platforms that Mr. Quaye’s bank accounts have been frozen by the Authority.”
It further explained that all taxpayers are engaged by the Authority to assess the income they earn and follow the standard procedure in communicating with them.
These processes include, writing to request taxpayers to voluntarily declare their income; raising assessments when they fail to declare their income by the due date and following due processes to request for the payment of the tax due.
According to the Authority, enforcement actions such as garnishment of accounts are resorted to only after taxpayers have refused to cooperate with the Authority following the tax assessments raised.
The GRA used the occasion to advise all eligible taxpayers to voluntarily disclose income earned and pay the taxes due to GRA to avoid the payment of penalties and interests as well as facing other sanctions.
It comes after Mr Quaye extravagantly marked his 40th birthday at the Black Star Square in Accra, with dignitaries from across the country and beyond in attendance.
This raised discourse about his source of income and the fulfilment of his tax obligations
Meanwhile Bills Micro Credit Ltd issued a statement to distance itself from the extravagant lifestyle of the founder.
