We’re Dedicated To Ensuring Decent Jobs For Ghanaians- Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has reiterated his commitment to creating the needed atmosphere and putting in place policies that ensure decent work for all Ghanaians.

“In furtherance of my 120-day social contract with the good people of Ghana, we remain dedicated to ensuring decent work for all Ghanaians,” he wrote in his May Day message to the country.

In his estimation, decent jobs encompass fair wages, safe working conditions, opportunities for training and skills development, and the protection of workers’ rights.

According to him, these are reflected in the social intervention programmes the government has launched in recent days.

He recognized that the workforce is the economy’s engine and thereby needs to strengthen labour laws, enforce occupational safety and health regulations, and promote social dialogue between employers and employees.

“My government recognises and deeply values the pivotal role of the Ghanaian worker in driving our national development agenda. You are the engine of our economy, the builders of our infrastructure, and the innovators who propel us forward. I am, therefore, committed to creating a supportive environment that allows you to thrive and help Reset Ghana.”

“Over the last four months, the government has been actively pursuing policies to stabilise the economy, promote industrialisation, focusing on adding value to our raw materials and creating new jobs in light industries, manufacturing and related sectors.”

He also committed to dealing with inflation, unemployment, and inadequate infrastructure.

“But the government is determined to address these challenges head-on as we build Ghana together.”
