We’ll Continue Making Unannounced Visits to High Schools to Inspect Meals- GES

The Ghana Education Service (GES) says it will continue to make unannounced visits to Senior High Schools across the country to inspect the quality of meals served to students.

In a post, the Service said the Director-General, Professor Ernest Kofi Davis, Chair of the Council, Prof. Mawutor Avoke and some members of Management have, over the past weeks, paid unannounced visits to selected schools across several regions.

These visits were used to assess the hygienic conditions under which meals are prepared; the type, quality, and nutritional value of food served to learners; and document concerns and suggestions from students, teachers, and kitchen staff on how the feeding programme can be improved.

“These surprise visits, which will continue from time to time, are intended to provide Management with real-time, on-the-ground information to guide policy decisions and strengthen the school feeding system to ensure that every learner is well-nourished, healthy, and ready to learn.”

It noted that the food learners eat in schools is an integral part of the teaching and learning process.

“Beyond satisfying hunger, good nutrition is scientifically proven to support mental development, concentration, and overall academic performance.”

Meanwhile, it affirmed its commitment to creating safe, supportive, and nourishing learning environments for all learners across the country.
