We Reject The President’s Probe Directive – Minority Leader
The National Democratic Congress has called on the Akufo-Addo led government to institute an independent commission of enquiry to investigate the Ejura riot.
This comes after the President, His Excellency Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo announced his directive to the Minister of Interior, Mr. Ambrose Dery, to conduct a public Probe into the circumstances surrounding the disturbances in Ejura.
The National Democratic Congress however labelled the President’s directive as a Ministerial Commission of Enquiry and says it isn’t good enough.
“The President’s instruction is for a Ministerial Commission of Enquiry. We reject it. That is not good enough.
“We want a Commission of Enquiry within the meaning of Article 278 of the 1992 constitution.
“The President must appoint a sole commissioner or two or more persons to support a commissioner just like the Emile Shot Commmission on the Ayawaso West Wuogon.”
“We want that kind of Commission of Enquiry and not a Ministerial Commission of Enquiry.
“There is complicity of state security agencies, they cannot absorb themselves. I want to see the President appoint a Justice of the Superior Court or a retired Justice of the Supreme Court to lead this process because ultimately, we will accept a recommendation that calls for reforms”, Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu narrated.
