We Need to Strengthen Ties With Our Neighbours- Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has suggested strengthening ties with the neighbouring countries, particularly those who make up the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) sub-region.

The alliance, according to him, can come in the area of security in the fight against terrorism, extremism and violence.

“Now more than ever before, we need to strengthen our ties with other nations to ensure that we are working together to keep our subregion safe to stand in solidarity and work in alliance with all our neighbours in the subregion.

His Excellency in his inaugural speech asserted that neighbouring countries are brothers.

“Recognising the history of our borders, is also our knowledge that on the other side of our country’s borders are our family members. They may be Ivorians, Togolese, Burkinabes, Nigerians or Malian but they are also Akans, Kasenas, Guans,Ewes, Nzemas, Moshie, and Grumas. We are all part of one big family.”

President Mahama was sworn into office on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, at the Independence Square alongside Vice President Prof Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang.

One after the other, they took the oath of allegiance and oath of office in the presence of the outgoing President and Vice Presidents as well as their wives, 21 heads of African states, three Vice Presidents, four Ministers, 24 envoys and a fully packed venue of Ghanaians supporters and dignitaries.
