We Have Phased Out BECE Leakage- Minister
The Minister for Education, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum has asserted that examination leakage at the Junior High School (JHS) level has successfully been phased out.
Though he said that does not put an end to all challenges that come with the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), it is a major achievement in education.
Speaking at a meeting with the Ashanti Regional House of Chiefs on Wednesday, December 13, 2023, he said leakages were dealt with through the adoption of serialization.
“We have reviewed BECE. Examination paper leakages were rampant some time ago. Three years ago, the President charged me with sealing the loopholes so we adopted the serialization measure. By this, each region had its own exam papers.
“I realised later that a website which was into selling leaked question papers folded up after it was operationalised. In the last two years, we decided to vary the question by examination centres. Leakage is now over.”
He, however, admitted the Ministry is still challenged with various examination malpractices which take place in the examination hall but noted it will phase out soon with devised strategies.
“Right now we are struggling with exam hall malpractices. So we met WAEC yesterday and we are planning to vary question papers.”
