We Aren’t Recruiting- Police Service

The Ghana Police Service has refuted allegations that it is undertaking selective and politically motivated enlistment.

The claim emanating from the Member of Parliament for Wa West Constituency, Mr Peter Toboo, was denied by the police administration in a brief statement released on Tuesday.

It noted that it is not undertaking any exercise of such nature.

It added, “The Ghana Police Service has monitored comments attributed to the Hon. Member of Parliament for Wa West, Mr Peter Toboo, to the effect that there is an ongoing recruitment exercise at the National Police Training School without any public announcement of the exercise.”

In a letter addressed to the Inspector General of Police cited by Asaase Radio in May 2024, the lawmaker said he was undisputedly informed of the exercise.

“Disturbing information from a reliable source reveals that the Police Administration under your leadership has allocated slots to the Political class of the ruling party as a new way of recruitment into the GPS,” a part of the letter states.
He highlighted the implications this could have on the country’s security.

“It is, therefore, not strange that the information of protocol slots being on sale appears to be gaining traction [daily]. This alleged new normal in Police recruitment has devastating consequences for internal peace and security.”
