A/R: We Are Experiencing Numbness – Mamponteng Traders Cry Out

Traders at Mamponteng in the Kwabre East Municipality in the Ashanti Region have protested over the delay of physical works at the abandoned Mamponteng Market.
The Mamponteng Jubilee Market has been in an abandoned position for thirteen years.
On September 29, 2025, the Vice President, Professor Jane Naana Opoku Agyeman, during her working tour, visited the site and promised assumption of site work, but as of now no physical work has taken place on the site.
Speaking with Opemsuo News on Tuesday, February 17, during their demonstration, the traders bemoaned the incomplete state of the market.
“We are suffocating under this electricity high-tension wires; I’m young but I’m facing eye problems,” one said.
They also revealed that they have experienced numbness over the three years they have traded beneath the high-tension electricity wires.
According to their Market Queenmother, Nana Achiaa, trading under the high-tension electricity wires has caused them to suffer from numbness, eye problems, and other health issues.
“Most of us are facing a lot of illnesses,” she cried.
In a passionate appeal, they called on the government to intervene immediately and complete the abandoned Mamponteng market so they can fully utilize it.
They disclosed that their business activities are suffering losses.
The traders warned that they may take matters into their own hands and occupy the uncompleted market if the government fails to expedite the construction immediately.
“We are giving the government a one-month ultimatum to show signs of work at the site,” Nana Achiaa stressed.
