We Are Confident Measures Put In Place And Materials Procured Will Help Curb The Spread Of COVID-19 – EC
The Electoral Commission of Ghana says it has put in place stringent measures to curb the spread of COVID-19 during the upcoming general election.
Addressing Parliament on Saturday, November 7, 2020 the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Mrs. Jean Mensah said it has procured and distributed items to help limit the spread of COVID-19 during the election.
” The items procured and distributed included: thermometer guns, Veronica’s buckets, sanitizers, liquid soap and tissue paper.”
” We have distributed all these to our regions and districts ahead of the election and we are confident that the materials procured will help curb the spread of the virus at all polling stations and collation centres throughout the country.”
In order to encourage people to go out and vote amidst the pandemic, the EC chairperson says, it will from Monday roll out an extensive publicity drive to sensitize the masses.
She also said Special Officials have been trained and tagged as COVID-19 Ambassadors who will be deployed to all thirty-eight thousand six hundred and twenty-two(38,622) polling stations in the country to ensure protocols are observed while the procured COVID-19 items are effectively put into use.
Ahead of the general election, Ghana is gradually recording a hike in the number of infections once again with nine hundred and seventy-three(973) active cases bringing the total number of infections to forty-eight thousand nine hundred and four(48,904) and forty- seven thousand six hundred and eleven(47,611) recoveries so far.
