“Waye Me Yie” Music Video Didn’t Deserve VGMA Award; Bullgod
Ghanaian artiste manager Lawrence Nana Asiamah Hanson popularly known as Bullgod has asserted that there was no way Piesie Esther’s Waye Me Yie music video could have won an award at the recently held Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA).
According to him, the video was a copied concept from Shatta Wale’s “Gringo” music video released in 2018.
The gospel musician’s “Waye Me Yie” video was nominated among eight in the Best Music Video category, however, she lost out on it. Black Sherif’s “Konogo Zongo” took the award.
After the event she expressed her disappointment at her failure noting that she invested much resources and therefore expected to win it. However, Bullgod disagrees.
According to him, she plagiarised Shatta Wale’s “Gringo” music video.
“That video is plagiarism. That video was taken from “Gringo”. Go and watch Shatta Wale’s Gringo. It’s the same video. There is no originality in that video. How do you expect to take {video of the year}? Because it’s nice?,” he asked during an interview with Berla Mundi.
He added, “We are looking for originality in the space of art so if the person is not original in what they delivered, how do you give them that.”
Shatta Wale’s “Gringo” video portrays a countryside setting with cowboy depictions.
