{Watch}Mahama Signals Zenator Rawlings to Call Him after Afenyo’s Criticism

While exiting the Parliamentary chamber after the State of the Nation Address (SONA), President John Dramani Mahama was captured signalling the daughter of the founder of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Zenator Rawlings to reach out to him by phone.

This was while the President, followed by his vice, Jane Nana Opoku Agyemang was exchanging handshakes with Members of Parliament on the front row starting from the Majority side.

Upon getting to the row which had the MP for Korle Klottey, he was captured on camera engaging in a brief conversation before signalling her to call him and then moving on to shake hands with others.

This followed a critique by the Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo Markin about the President’s exclusion of Zenator from his government while stressing the blatant disregard for gender parity.

“His Excellency the President has announced to us a cabinet of 19 with only two women. The daughter of the founder of this NDC, Zanetor Rawlings, is missing, Hajia Lardi is missing, and Helen Ntoso is missing. Where are the women in this government?

“The Vice President is part of this government and we are seeing only two women on the cabinet and the Vice President is sitting there. In percentage terms, we have only 10% of women in cabinet.”

Meanwhile, the President in his address, said women currently make up 23.21% of all appointments.

“I am pleased to report that women currently make up 23.21% of all appointments, and we are diligently working towards reaching the targets set forth in Act 1121.”
