In his message, he called for the inclusion of Music and Dance in the curriculum and AAMUSTED’s programmes stating that it is a major source of employment and income in a world saddled with a growing unemployment rate.
He said he is gainfully employed with music and caters for his family through the same.
“Include music and dance. I hail from Nkawie. I was young when my father died. This is what I inherited from my grandfather. This has been my source of income now. With it, I take care of my family. Skills are the engine for every nation’s development.”
He continued, “Some headmasters and headmistresses hate to hear about music. Meanwhile, music is played at funerals, when a child is born we play music, music is played during marriage ceremonies and even in the plane music is played.”
He said there are nineteen available traditional instruments and decried the fact that Western instruments have taken over the country.
He believes if mastered, the nineteen traditional instruments can create employment for the youth noting, “We have abandoned all these and our young ones are wandering for jobs.”
He was performing at the investiture of Prof Frederick Kwaku Sarfo, the first Vice Chancellor of AAMUSTED.
