Warehouse Fire Will Not Impact Saglemi Affordable Housing Project

The Managing Director of Quarm-LMI Consortium, Kofi Adabor Ofori-Amanfo, has assured the public that the fire incident at the Saglemi Affordable Housing project site will not affect the project.

On December 24, 2024, two external sheds serving as warehouses, located 477 meters from the main housing project, caught fire.

The affected warehouses contained expired plumbing materials and pipes from previous development works.

In an interview with journalists on December 25, 2024, Mr. Ofori-Amanfo clarified that the burnt materials would not have been reused in the upcoming redevelopment set to begin in 2025.

The fire started when labourers clearing the site set fire to weeds they had gathered.

Unfortunately, the fire spread to the warehouses.

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) was called to extinguish the blaze.

No houses in the scheme were affected, and Mr. Ofori-Amanfo dispelled rumours that office documents were lost, stating that the affected sheds were not offices.

Minister of Works and Housing, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, visited the site to assess the situation.

He reaffirmed that the housing project remains intact and urged the developer to adhere to regulations and timelines.

Quarm-LMI Consortium was selected in October 2024 to complete the Saglemi Housing project. The company is expected to finish 1506 housing units, which will be sold to the public, with priority given to salaried employees and workers’ unions.

The project, under new management, is scheduled to resume in 2025, with all necessary materials being replaced to ensure smooth progress.
