Walid Regragui Rules Himself Out of Black Stars Coaching Role

Highly respected Moroccan coach Walid Regragui is not interested in becoming the next head coach of the Black Stars, according to latest reports.

The position became vacant after the Ghana Football Association parted ways with Otto Addo following the team’s disappointing results in the March international window, where they lost to both Austria and Germany.

In recent days, Regragui’s name had been strongly linked with the job alongside other prominent candidates such as two-time AFCON winner Hervé Renard, former Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah and Tom Saintfiet.

However, fresh indications suggest the Moroccan tactician has no desire to take up the role and is instead attracting attention from clubs in Saudi Arabia.
Regragui is widely regarded as one of the finest coaches on the continent.

He gained international acclaim after steering Morocco to a historic semi-final appearance at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar and later led them to glory at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

As the Ghana Football Association continues its search for a suitable replacement, attention will now shift to other potential candidates.

Ghana have been placed in Group L for the 2026 FIFA World Cup alongside England, Croatia and Panama. The Black Stars are scheduled to open their campaign against Panama on June 18, followed by tough encounters against England and Croatia.
