WAFA SC Withdraw From Division One League
The West African Football Academy Sporting Club (WAFA SC) has withdrawn from the Division One League.
This was communicated in a communique by the Ghana Football Association (GFA).
The Club communicated their decision to focus on just nurturing and developing the talents of young players through its academy system in a letter to the GFA.
This comes after a similar move by Hohoe United Football Club Limited formerly Liberty Professional two months ago.
In a statement, the Chief Executive Officer of the Club, Linda Ansong explained that the Club’s objective has rather changed as it has given up its slot in the Division One League to operate as a “world’s class developer of Ghanaian football talent”.
Meanwhile, the GFA says it will exercise its power under Article 78 of the GFA Statutes to find a replacement for WAFA in the Access Bank Division One League, Zone 2 in light of the established precedents.
WAFA SC was first established as Feyenoord Academy by the Dutch side Feyenoord in 1999 in Gomoa Fetteh where African football talents were nurtured.
Its name was changed to West African Football Academy in August 2014 with its location as well.
