WAEC Dismisses Education Ministry’s Timeline for WASSCE Results Release

The West African Examination Council (WAEC) has dismissed the timeline set by the Ministry of Education for the release of the 2024 West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results.

The Council says it cannot give assurance that the results will be released on the said date though an amount of GHc25 million has been released by the Ministry, Graphic Online reports.

This is because the amount it awaits to enable it to fix the broken down scanners, conclude scanning of the objective test answer cards, and then process the results is yet to be received, the report added.

Concerns were raised after the Council disclosed it had suspended the marking of exam papers after its scanners got damaged.

In a statement issued two weeks ago, WAEC noted that it was awaiting an outstanding balance of ₵118,000,000 debt owed by the government to procure new scanners to continue the marking.

The Minister for Education, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum announced December 29 as the date for the release of the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results following an engagement with the WAEC on Monday, December 23.
