WAEC Confirms Payment of ¢35Million By Govt
The West African Examination Council (WAEC) has announced the payment of GH¢ 35,000,000.00 of arrears owed by the government.
In a statement confirming the payment on December 27, the Council said it received the cheque on December 25.
“The West African Examinations Council wishes to inform its stakeholders that on December 25, 2024, it received a cheque for an additional amount of GH¢ 35,000,000.00 from the Ministry of Education to enable it to complete the scanning of the objective answer cards and conclude the processing of results for the WASSCE for School Candidates, 2024.”
This means that the government now owes the Council GHC83,000,000.
With this disbursement, WAEC said it is working round the clock to get the results released by the end of the month.
Meanwhile, the Council has appealed to the Ministry of Education to release the outstanding balance to enable it to pay Supervisors, Invigilators, script checkers, and suppliers of examination materials and also meet other financial obligations.
In a statement issued two weeks ago, WAEC announced the government owed it GHc118,000,000.
This amount, it said, would be used to purchase scanners to continue marking the 2024 West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) and pay stakeholders for their services.
