W/R: NAIMOS Dismantles ‘Crime-infested’ Community in Prestea-Huni Valley District

The National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) Task Force has reportedly dismantled a crime-infested community in the Prestea-Huni Valley District of the Western Region.
Known as Gangway and nestled somewhere in Aboso, the task force found several makeshift structures serving as hideouts and drug dens.
These were set ablaze alongside illegal mining equipment.
Several hundred locals, mostly galamseyers, surrendered to the Task Force, a statement by the Government Spokesperson, Felix Ofosu Kwakye said.
“These individuals were involved in various social vices, including illegal mining, trading, and narcotics smoking, as well as gambling.”
The taskforce also seized eleven parcels of Indian Hemp, alongside other hard drugs.
“This operation follows a similar one in June 2025, where NAIMOS warned criminal gangs and galamseyers to vacate the area. Despite this, the warnings were ignored.”
In a related development, the task force NAIMOS Task Force conducted anti-galamsey operations in the Dadwen-Domping areas of the Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipality.
As part of the operation, 15 water pumping machines and one generator set were seized while three chanfangs were destroyed, alongside structures and equipment belonging to illegal miners.
“The NAIMOS Task Force remains committed to combating illegal mining and its associated social vices in the region.”
