Voters Must Punish Minority if They Partake in the 17 Bills Consideration- IMANI Boss
The founding President of local think tank IMANI Centre for Policy and Education, Franklin Cudjo has urged Ghanaians to punish the Minority in Parliament if they avail themselves for the consideration of some 17 bills on the business table of the House.
These bills are to be considered when the Speaker gives his consent for the House to reconvene after it was adjourned sine dine.
In a letter requesting a recall of the House, the Majority listed the 17 bills as part of “urgent” government businesses that the House needed to transact.
Among them are the Environmental Protection Agency Bill, 2024, Social Protection Bill, 2023, Customs (Amendment) Bill, 2024, Budget Bill, 2023, Ghana Boundary Commission Bill, 2023, Intestate Succession Bill, 2022, University of Mampong Bill, 2024, Free Secondary Education Bill, 2024, Pre-Tertiary Amendment Bill Colleges of Applied Arts, Science and Technology Bill 2024, Ghana Book Development Council Bill 2024 and University for Development Studies Bill 2024.
Also included are the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply Bill, 2024, University of Health. Agriculture and Life Sciences (Kintampo) Bill, 2024, J. B. Danquah University of Engineering and Agricultural Sciences (Bunso) Bill, 2024, University of Sports for Development Bill, 2024 and University of Engineering and Applied Sciences (Ankrodie) Bill, 2024.
But the IMANI boss raised concerns about the enormity of the bills tabled for consideration within a short period of time.
“Any Parliament worth its name should under no circumstances be considering all these many bills and costly plans in 2 days!”
According to him, the minority must be held complicit if they are able to pass through the House.
“If the Minority group in Parliament takes part in this, it would be the clearest indication yet to Ghanaians that they will be worse in government. I will urge voters to take notice and punish them.”
