Viral Altercation Was Between Firefighters and Suspected Thief- Fire Service Clarifies

The Ghana National Fire Service has provided clarity on assaults reported during the firefighting at Kasoa New Market on Sunday.
In a statement, it noted that the viral assault, which showed a young man being physically abused, did not involve a reporter but a suspected thief.
Acknowledging the alleged assault of a journalist, it confirmed that the case was under police investigation, assuring that it was willing to fully cooperate to establish the facts.
Addressing the case of the suspected thief, it said he had earlier attacked firefighters along with a group of accomplices at the fire scene.
It noted that a committee had been constituted to investigate the incident thoroughly and establish all relevant facts.
It stressed, “While GNFS condemns attacks on its personnel, it equally frowns upon any form of physical or verbal assault on civilians by its personnel, regardless of the level of provocation.”
“GNFS remains committed to professionalism and accountability and transparency in the discharge of its mandate and will continue to cooperate with the media and relevant authorities to ensure accurate public information.”
