Vetting Committee Chaos: A-G Urged to Prosecute Culpable MPs Impartially

One Ghana Movement, a Civil Society Organisation led by Senyo Hosi has called on the Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Dominic Ayine to probe the disturbing scenes that characterized the vetting of some lawmakers last night by the Appointments Committee.

The confrontation on January 30, 2025, emanated from disagreement over the vetting of two additional Ministerial nominees and saw the destruction of glass doors and microphones in the Conference Room.

In a statement, Hosi urged the A-G to delve into the concerning development and prosecute impartially.

“We further call on the Attorney-General to investigate and initiate criminal actions against any person culpable in the destruction of state property as witnessed yesterday without fear nor favour.”

According to him, such “reckless” actions represent a waste of national resources and a disregard for the very citizens who entrusted them with the authority.

Condemning the action, he asserted that their action has the propensity to tarnish Ghana’s democratic image and erode public trust in state institutions.

The disagreement was fuelled by the decision of the Majority side to continue and vet two additional Minister-nominees after they had vetted five nominees of President John Dramani Mahama, a decision that was opposed by the Minority side.

The five included Abdul-Rashid Hassan Pelpuo, Minister-Designate for Labour, Jobs and Employment; Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, Minister-Designate for Environment, Science and Technology; Samuel Nartey George, Minister-Designate for Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations; Kofi Iddie Adams, Minister-Designate for Sports and Recreation; and Joseph Bukari Nikpe, Minister-Designate for Transport.

The two remaining nominees were the Minister-designate for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh and the Minister-designate for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.
