Unpaid Nurses: We’ve Paid 7,000 Nurses, 6,500 Others Pending- MoH

The Ministry of Health (MoH) says it has paid 7,000 out of the 13,500 nurses recruited without clearance by the previous government.
It comes after some nurses hit the streets of Accra on October 2, 2025.
In a statement, it said financial clearance was received to recruit them in August 2024, which expired in December 2024.
“This meant that when the previous government was posting nurses, there was no financial provision available to cover their salaries. Instead of asking them to stay home, the current government allowed the nurses to continue working while provisions were made for their payment…This is a result of special concessions made by the government to retain the nurses.”
So far, about 6,500 are still awaiting payment.
The Ministry, in its statement, assured the affected nurses that their issue would be resolved soon.
With regard to non-payment of some pharmacists who started their housemanship in 2023 and completed in early 2024, it said it was working on their allowances.
It added, “A group of medical house officers who also started their house job in 2024 without payment, have also had their issue resolved.”
Meanwhile, it said that the issues of junior doctors have been resolved.
