UK Willing to Assist Mahama’s 24 Hour Economic Policy

The United Kingdom (UK) has promised to assist the Mahama administration with its intended 24-hour economy policy, a key promise in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) 2024 election campaign.
The assurance was relayed by HE Angela Rayner, the Deputy Prime Minister on a visit to the Jubilee House in Ghana on February 21, 2025.
“What shocked me was your election about your 24-hour economy and we have a mutual aspiration for both the UK economy and here in Ghana. I was just this morning seeing some of the entrepreneurs you have here and the jobs they want to create in the economy.”
According to her, the UK’s support to projects of the Ghanaian government will continue for the new government as it aligns with their economic growth objective.
“Our long history of supporting your endeavours is what we are going to continue today and I think that we can achieve great things together the fact that the UK Government is aligned on growth and your government of focused on growth to create good jobs for people so their living standards are improved is exactly what we are trying to achieve as well so will be there as a friend as we always have been to support and to make sure that both our economies can grow and the people on the ground can see that and they are able to get the jobs to fulfil their family lives.”
That said, she said the ultimate objective was to deepen collaborations with Ghana for mutual benefit.
“That’s what we want to achieve so I’m looking forward to deepening the relationship that both of our countries have had.”
The President for his part welcomed the UK’s plan to support his government.
