Uganda Is The Most Comfortable Place On Earth- Prez To USA
Ugandan President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has taken a swipe at the United States of America (USA) for recent travel restrictions placed on him saying his home country is the most comfortable place to live.
He stressed that visiting the US was a favour to the country and not a benefit to boast of from his side.
“The issue of the law we passed of the homosexuals, some of the foreigners are wasting their time. They try to put pressure on us, {saying} If you don’t rule {out} this we will not allow you to go to America. I don’t want to go to America. I go to America as a favour to the Americans. Because what am I lacking here….This is the most comfortable place on earth.”
According to him, Uganda has all that is needed to make it self-sufficient and thereby a travel ban won’t harm him.
Speaking at an event in his country, the leader who has ruled the country since 1986 posited that when the natural and human resources of his country are utilized effectively with corruption kicked out, the foreigners will have no authority to dictate and interfere in their affairs.
“That arrogance of the foreigners is because we are not listening to the sermon of the preachers today. If we don’t use our talents fully, then we go into all those problems of begging and borrowing. Let’s use our talents fully and the bible says we shall be lenders and not borrowers. So when you see we are borrowing then it means we are not doing what the bible told us to do- Self-sufficiency. We have the capacity, we don’t lack anything.”
Uganda’s Parliament passed anti LGBTQ+ law on March 21 and got the President’s assent in May.
Among the provisions of the law is up to 20 years in prison for the “recruitment, promotion, and funding” of same-sex “activities”. It outlaws gay marriage, punishes same-sex acts with life imprisonment, and calls for the death penalty for “aggravated homosexuality”.
The country has received backlash from the US, UK and other countries for the action and faces potential retaliation.
