UG Traditional Halls Fees Slashed By 25%

The University of Ghana (UG) has rescinded its announced traditional hostel fee increment, slashing the fee by 25%.

In January, the institution announced a decision to increase the Residential Facility User Fees (RFUF) for traditional halls of residence by 20% for the 2024/2025 academic. This generated concerns about the annual increment by the school among students and guardians.

Following an engagement between the University management and the Ministry of Education, the Students’ Representative Council (SCR) released a statement informing students of the 25% reduction.

This means fresh students will pay GHS 2,500 instead of the initially announced GHS 3,000 fees while continuing students are to pay GHS 250 in the second semester instead of the initially announced GHS 500.

“After several deliberations in our quest to reduce the financial burden that students in the traditional halls are facing, the university management has agreed to reduce the RFUF by 25% for both freshmen and continuing students.”

According to the SRC, this move is aimed at ensuring adequate funds to cover the utilities and maintenance of the facilities for optimal services and a conducive living environment for students, without burdening students financially.
