UCC Rejoices Over Prof Opoku Agyemang’s Historic Record
The University of Cape Coast (UCC) has expressed its joy at its former Vice Chancellor, Prof Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang’s historic record as the first female Vice President of Ghana.
The “best university in Ghana and West Africa” expressed its joy days after the declaration of former President John Dramani Mahama as the winner of the 2024 Presidential election.
“UCC rejoices with Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, sharing the proud feeling that the first woman elected Vice-President of Ghana is a former Vice-Chancellor of the UCC. More power to your elbow,” it said in a post.
In 2008, Prof Opoku Agyemang became the country’s first female VC of a public university.
Born on November 22, 1951, in Cape Coast, Central Region, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang is an academic powerhouse and an advocate for education and women’s empowerment.
She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and a Diploma in Education from the University of Cape Coast (UCC).
She earned her Master’s and Doctorate degrees in English Literature from York University in Canada.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang rose through the academic ranks to become a distinguished professor, excelling in teaching, research, and leadership.
She was in 2013 appointed as Ghana’s Minister for Education under President John Dramani Mahama.
