UCC IS GHANA’S NUMBER 1 UNIVERSITY
The University of Cape Coast has been ranked Number 1 One University in Ghana, by the 2022 Times Higher Education Annual rankings.
To be ranked in the Prestigious World University Rankings; Universities must publish at least 1 thousand papers in reputable publications in a 5-year period – between 2016 and 2020 for the 2022 rankings.
Universities are also excluded if they only teach in a single subject area, or if they do not teach undergraduates. The number of ranked Universities has grown with time. When the first rankings were launched in 2004 they were limited to just 200 participants, growing to 400 in 2011.
In 2016, the arbitrary limit was removed resulting in an increase in the number of participants and the number of ranked universities to 981. This year, 1,662 Universities met the criteria and so appeared in the World University Rankings. However, this still leaves 450 Universities that submitted data for the 2022 rankings but did not meet the criteria.
UK’s University of Oxford retained its first place in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings for the sixth consecutive year as the US and UK took all top 10 positions for the 2nd year running.
In Asia, mainland China registered its highest ever position in ranking 16th and saw a record 10 Universities reach the world top 200, while South Korea, Japan, Singapore and Hong Kong all achieved their highest positions under the current methodology.
