Two Accused Street Robbers Remanded

Two are in police custody after they were remanded by court for alleged street robbery.

They are identified as Stephen Gletsu, aged 37 and Mohammed Sheriff, aged 20.

According to a statement by the police, they have been assisting with ongoing investigations leading to the arrest of four additional accomplices.

They will reappear in court on Wednesday, February 4, 2026.

Arrest
The two accused persons were arrested on January 14, 2026, at Dzorwulu in Accra by a patrol team from the Kotobabi District Police Command.

The police report that during a routine patrol, the officers found the two suspicious as they rode an unregistered black Royal 125 motorbike.

At the time, Gletsu was riding the motorbike while Sheriff, dressed in all-black attire, was the pillion rider.

The officers further observed that the pillion rider was wielding a cutlass.

“Upon noticing the Police, the accused persons sped off, prompting a chase. During the pursuit, warning shots were fired, causing the accused persons to lose control and fall off the motorbike near Roman Ridge, close to the Nigerian High Commission,” the Service recounted.

“The accused persons attempted to flee on foot but were traced and arrested by the patrol team.”

The accused persons sustained varying degrees of injuries during the arrest and were sent to the Police Hospital, where they were treated and discharged.

During interrogation, the accused persons admitted to committing the robbery and confessed to having robbed several victims within the Accra Metropolis.

Retrieved Items
A search conducted on the accused persons led to the retrieval of one Infinix mobile phone, one iPhone 12 Pro, one Samsung A21, one iPhone 15 Pro, one iPhone 13, one Infinix feature phone, one itel feature phone, one Nokia feature phone and one Infinix X6528 phone.

Other items included a necklace, and cash in the sum of Two Thousand Six Hundred and Ninety Ghana Cedis (GH¢2,690.00) and Two Dollars (USD 2).

Victims’ Statements
The police have since obtained statements from several victims who have identified both the accused persons and their stolen mobile phones.

“The victims narrated how the accused persons attacked them with a machete and made away with their phones, money, and other valuables.”

The Accra Regional Police Command assured the public of its continued commitment to combating street robbery and other criminal activities within the Metropolis.
