Tributes Flow For Legon Cities Goalie Sylvester Sackey
The Ghanaian football fraternity is mourning the death of Legon Cities shot-stopper Sylvester Sackey.
The 26-year-old passed on in the late hours of Tuesday, September 12, 2023.
The Club confirmed the news in a social media post on Tuesday, stating that their first-choice goalkeeper died following a short illness.
“It is with a heavy heart that we sadly announce the passing of our goalkeeper, Sylvester Sackey.”
It said his death “is a big blow to everyone associated with the club.”
Meanwhile, tributes are pouring in from all sections of the country for the Sackey.
“We extend our sincerest condolences to the immediate family of the late Sylvester Sackey, the Management & the Playing body of Legon City FC, the supporters and all football-loving fans of the betPawa Premier League. May His gentle Soul Rest in perfect peace,” betPawa Premier League tweeted.
“We’re deeply saddened to hear about the passing of @LegonCitiesFC goalkeeper, Sylvester Sackey. Our heartfelt condolences go out to his family, friends, teammates, and everyone who knew and loved him,” the Professional Footballers Association of Ghana (PFAG) joined.
Hearts of Oak FC also tweeted, “We send our heartfelt condolences to the family of the late Sylvester Sackey, a goalkeeper at Legon Cities. May the good Lord keep his soul and protect the bereaved family. RIP Sylvester. 💔💔💔”
