Trader Arrested For Possessing and Distributing Illicit Drugs including “RED”

A trader identified as Amidu Mohammed, has been nabbed by the Greater Accra Regional Police Command following a discovery of large quantities of illicit drugs including what is known as “RED”.

He is said to be a 30-year-old shop operator at Sabon Zongo who allegedly distributes dangerous drugs.

The suspect was arrested upon a tip-off.

“During the initial engagement, the suspect admitted to having some of the drugs in his possession and confirmed that he had earlier sold a quantity to an individual in the area.”

Upon a thorough search of the suspect’s premises, Police retrieved quantities of various restricted and prescription-only drugs, including Tramico 225, Tramaking 225, and Tafrodol 225-popularly known in the area as “RED” as well as Diazepam 10 (commonly referred to as Blue-Blue or Valium 10).

An unlicensed pump-action firearm concealed in a sack within the suspect’s shop was also discovered.

“The suspect claimed ownership of the drugs but alleged that the firearm had been left in his shop by an unknown individual, whose identity he could not provide to police investigators.”

He has since been slapped with possession of Dangerous Drugs, contrary to Section 38 of the Pharmacy Act, 1994 (Act 489) and Possession of a Firearm Without Lawful Authority, contrary to Section 192 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).
