Thursday Declared Holiday
The Ministry of Interior has announced to the notice of the general public an upcoming holiday.
This Thursday will mark the observation of the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Day.
In a statement on Monday, the Ministry said, “The general public is hereby informed that Thursday, 21st September 2023 which marks Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Day, is a Statutory Public Holiday and should be observed as such throughout the country.”
The Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Day formerly the Founder’s Day is used to celebrate the life and legacy of Ghana’s first president, Dr Kwame Nkrumah who struggled for independence for the country.
His struggle yielded a positive impact when he successfully led the country out of the rule of the British on March 6, 1957.
21st September marked his birthday and was commemorated as Founder’s Day until 2016 when President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo amended the Public Holidays Act 2001 (Act 601) to rename it the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Day.
