{Throwback} Asantes Don’t Hate NDC- Otumfuo
Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II once set the record straight to put to rest conversations and perceptions about the political affiliation and alignment of the Asante ethnic group in the country.
This was when the late John Evans Atta Mills had been elected and sworn into office in the stead of former President John Agyekum Kufuor in 2009.
His Majesty together with Asanteman at an event where he received the new President of the country at the time at the Manhyia Palace noted that Asantes do not hate the National Democratic Congress (NDC) or any other political party as perceived.
He also noted that the group is not politically aligned as some identify with any of the political parties in the country.
“We will pray for you. Asanteman doesn’t hate you. Asanteman doesn’t abhor NDC neither are we aligned with NPP or CPP. Some Asantes are sympathisers of the NDC, others are sympathisers of the NPP and others are for the CPP and that is why the NDC government has been voted in. All that is needed is development. Roads are not partisan.”
H.E Mills during his courtesy call to Palace assured of his preparedness to honourably carry the baton he had been passed.
“Some people came to work and we are here to continue. I pray to God for goodwill and good health to continue from where my predecessors left off.”
